Location: Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado
My two favorite hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park are Sky Pond and Chasm Lake, but with the caveat that arrival must happen for sunrise. While it is painful to start a hike in the middle of the night (especially to for frozen lake photos), the blindingly golden glow of the Longs Peak Diamond is one of the Top 10 natural features I have seen. Arriving in the Chasm Lake Cirque never ceases to make me feel equal parts small and significant…it is just one of those places you need to go and experience.
